rainy-day randomness...

so it is pouring rain in xi'an, which changed our original plan of bicycling the ancient walls of the city. instead, we're in the internet cafe (picture 500 computers arranged side-by-side in a pitch black room with hundreds of computer games going simultaneously). given the unexpected free time and the decent bandwidth, I'm going to upload a few random snippets from the past few days...

Walking from the Great Wall to our hotel, there was a man on the side of the road offering a "flying fox." Two of the guys from our group (ex-soldiers from the Norwegian army) jumped on the chance to zip across the river on a pulley suspended a few hundred feet above the water. At first, i had some Camp Buckner flashbacks (slide-for-life was not one of my finer moments). But after a few minutes of handwringing, off i went!

I'm not an in IP lawyer, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this is copyright infringement... NO idea what they're selling, but the sign is outside our hotel.

Best. breakfast. ever: 1) pour out crepe mixture. 2) spread with squeegee thing. 3) smear an egg on one side. 4)flip over 5) brush with (for us, minimal) chili sauce 6) add sliced potatoes, fried wontons, and scallions. 7) fold up like a package. 8) ENJOY!!! this was our favorite breakfast in Xi'an. 25 well-spent cents!

Drink of champions: Hot Taro Milk tea (with tapioca "bubbles.") Conveying the word "taro" took a bit of work but it was well worth it!
